I think that in order to impress the public in a huge way with this effect, the most important thing is to ACT it. I think that, at least for me, the secret of this effect is not in the sleight of hand, but actually in how you perform it in front of an audience. Obviously if you are a beginner you won’t be able to do all the false cuts and shuffles that Bill Malone does, but there are a lot of easier cuts that you can do. And I never got it wrong even when I was more of a beginner than today. I don’t agree with the magician friends that have said that it is not for beginners, because it has been always one of my best impact effects, at the point that I have used it as a closing act for many years.

I think that probably magic is one of those traditions that pass from generation to generation in similar ways. The interesting part is that the way I tell the story is similar to the way Bill Malone Does it, but I watched him for the first time at least ten years after I had been performing that trick. Things only get worse when he delivers ice to the wrong room and ends up in a domestic argument at a really bad time. He's on his first night on the job, when he's asked to help out a coven of witches in the Honeymoon Suite.

And I use a story, which is a little bit similar to Bill Malone’s, but it is adapted to the place where I live. Often using physical comedy and sight gags, this movie chronicles the slapstick misadventures of Ted, the Bellhop. Just spend time on speaking the story and making your shuffles/cuts perfectly consistent for each and every performance. there is no need to used a gaffed deck for this effect. I always felt as though Bill's original stack was making use of "left over" cards by the end.Ĭoncerning methods. My version is a new stack that (IMO) offers more direction at the end of the routine. Now, in consideration with the question at hand. If you were looking to my presentation with the expectation that you would see some kind of stylistic competition with Bill Malone. but I certainly like his trick, and I would much rather perform it my way, in my style, with my stack. and it is foolish indeed to copy the style of another. Style and method are two entirely different items of consideration. Quite frankly I find it absurd to qualify the "best version" of any illusion to be mastered by anyone to be in direct reference to another's STYLE of presentation. My Sam the Bellhop is not meant to be a comparison to Bill Malone's presentational style.
